Originally
from the Island of Mauritius, Erwyn is a musician-composer with
a vast professional trajectory. Because of his origins
and musical influences, he has developped an unique style as
an instrumentalist and as singer. He plays the guitar, banjo,
drums, washboard and various folk instruments from his country.
Erwyn, due to his origins, holds a great
richness of different cultural infuences. His knowledge of
Jazz, Blues, Gospel and the native music of his country, the
SEGA (which takes birth through the confluence of African music
and the Creole culture of Mauritius), has driven him through
a constant search to blend and integrate those styles so as
to express with intensity, deepness and sensibility his peculiar
and own vision of music. This creativeness takes birth currently
through his own musical project. His repertoire includes his
own songs, some adaptations of traditional jazz tunes and folkloric
songs of Mauritius sung in Creole and in English. With this
new repertoire, he has performed in the Jazz Festival of Terrassa,
Palau de la Música, Fundació Puigvert
...
As a composer, his songs emerge from deep inside his heart,
transcending boundaries and limits.Reflects experiences, emotions
that every human being goes through sometime during his life
: joy, pain, nostalgia, love, friendship...
Apart from his own musical project, he
has performed and still performs as musician and as a singer
with various and diferents well-known artists and groups : "La Vella Dixieland", "Locomotora
Negra", La Porteña Jazz Band, Leroy Jones, Josep
Maria Farràs, Ignasi Terraza, Andrzej Cudzich, Ricard
Gili, Oriol Romani, Amadeu Casas, August Tharrats, Emmanuel d´Job,
Big Mama, Kathy Autrey, Monica Green ...
He has performed as a multi-instrumentalist
in Theater Entertainments with the “Comediants”, “The 3 Penny Opera-Berthol
Brecht” and with the actress Carme Sansa.
He has performed in many International
Jazz Festivals
: New Orleans, Japan, Hungary, Germany, Holland, Denmark, France,
Finland and the most importants ones in Spain.
He has been the leader of his own jazz
groups : “Terrassa
Swing Reunion”, "Erwyn´s Hot 5", "Erwyn´s
Hot Brass” , "Erwyn´s Sega" y "Erwyn´s
Jazz Kréol”.
The basic repertoire used in concert is
a selection of his
own compositions which defines his most significant style. He
could be defined as a rooted performer. His personal style has
been developed and enriched through the different cultural influences
which have been the source of his inspiration. The amalgam of
his origins leads to a large variety of rhythms and musical nuances
which displays the intensity of his particular vision of music.
Erwyn’s live concerts bring along a powerful performance
with the contribution of 3 excellent musicians, Enric Carreras
(piano & keyboards), Cidao Trindade (drums & percussion)
and Pepo Domènech (bass) who have picked up his overall
style.
